Freedom Friday-A Reason for Faith

I was talking to a friend about God yesterday and the question of faith entered our conversation. It isn’t a new question. Honestly, I’ve been asked quite often.
“Let me test you,” she said. “Why do you believe and have faith in God?”
But, no matter how many times I’ve been asked, the answer never comes out any easier and I’m left asking myself whether it is because my answer has changed, or my faith is little.
1 Peter 3:15-16 say, “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.”
However, my faith is not little. My words stumble as I attempt to proclaim my faith eloquently, and that’s the problem.
Luke 12:12 says “for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say” and yet, in those moments I now realize I struggle because I focus too much on trying to piece together what I should say myself rather than letting the Holy Spirit reach out through me.
Proclaim your faith through the Holy Spirit! I’ll remind myself every day. The answer hasn’t truly changed, but it has been built upon as I grow spiritually on my walk with Christ. The answer to my faith is this: Through faith I pray, and through faith I see my prayers answered. It may not be in a day, or at times not even six months, but I see God’s work in my life. Even from the time that I did not know God’s love, in hindsight I see his grace and purpose for my trials.
